Herbert Coleridge was born on April 23rd, 1830. He died in 1861. He started the work on the project that finally became the Oxford English Dictionary. He was the grandson of Samuel Taylor Coleridge, who was a famous poet. He finished his education at Balliol College, Oxford, from where he graduated with a double first in mathematics and Classics. After graduation he stayed at the Oxford University and worked on various projects on linguistics. At the age of 27 he started with the work on the Oxford English Dictionary. He died of tuberculosis at the age of 31.
