Sir William Alexander Craigie

Craigie was born August 13th 1867 in Dundee, Scotland. He attended St. Andrews University studying Scandinavian languages in Copenhagen. After his graduation he taught at St. Andrews. In 1897 he joined the Oxford dictionary staff and became a joint editor from 1901-33. He additionally started teaching at the University of Oxford in 1905. From 1923-26 he was chief editor of the four-volume Historical Dictionary of American English.
On September 2nd 1957 Craigie died in Watlington, England.
