Academic Life

Dr. Joshua A. Fishman is a distinguished University Research Professor Emeritus of Social Sciences of Yeshiva University. He received his Ph.D. in Social Psychology from Columbia University in 1953. He is a pioneer and internationally renowned scholar in the fields of sociolinquistics and bilingual education.

Dr. Fishman is the founder and the General Editor of the International Journal of the Sociology of Language, a post he has held since 1973.

Dr. Fishman is a prolific author and has written over 1000 articles and monographs.

In 2004 he was awarded the Linguapax Prize.
