The structure of VPs
Look at the following examples:
a) Peter might [miss the school bus tomorrow deliberately].
b) She will [read the letters in the summerhouse this afternoon].
c) The baby might [sleep after lunch].
d) The boy will [easily eat the piece of cake in a second].
e) Sally [wrote the note with her new pen].
1. For each VP, identify the head. List the complement and adjunct(s) and name their phrasal category.
(If complements or adjuncts are absent, insert "/". If there are two adjuncts, name the one on the left first.)

d) VP[easily eat the piece of cake in a second]

2. Draw a simplified tree diagram to represent the structure of each VP.
